What Shouldn’t You Put Down the Toilet?

It’s just so easy to put things down the toilet. All you have to do is throw it in, flush it, and it goes away like magic. However, this isn’t always such a good idea. You could end up clogging up your toilet and having to pay thousands of dollars in toilet repair. Nobody wants that. But how do you know what not to flush down the toilet? This blog post will serve as a handy little guide for things you should never flush.

      Diapers and Baby Wipes

Ah, the joys of parenthood. There is nothing cuter than a newborn baby. However, they come with a lot of responsibility. Chief among them is changing a baby’s diaper. You have to deal with the smell and make sure that you put the diaper on correctly. When you have all of that finished, what now?

Tempting as it may be, you should never flush a diaper, as it is designed to absorb liquids and doesn’t break down in the water. The same goes for baby wipes, which may also cause big issues in the future if they are flushed down the toilet.

      Food

Your toilet is not a trash can. Just because you can flush what goes down inside doesn’t mean that you should do it. This goes especially for food. We have all been there when we were children, trying to hide food that we didn’t like from our parents, just to give the impression that we ate it.

If you try to flush undigested food down the toilet, you will end up clogging it and causing more damage. Parents and guardians will not be happy with the end result. So please, just throw the food in the kitchen trash.

      Cat Litter

Disposing of cat litter is a pain, but that doesn’t mean you should take any shortcuts, as it poses a major hazard to your toilet if it is flushed. There isn’t enough water to move the cat litter down the toilet. If you keep flushing it, the cat litter will build up and cause problems. Plus, it sucks the liquid out and toilets are designed to flush water-soluble waste.

So, to all of the cat owners out there, if you want to keep in mind what not to flush down the toilet, bag up the cat litter and throw it in the trash.

      Sanitary Napkins and Wipes

Pads and tampons are designed to absorb liquids. They do not break down so easily. If you keep flushing pads and tampons down the toilet, you will end up causing damage to your plumbing and will potentially need a toilet repair.
