How to Save Money on Your Heating Bill This Winter
December 19th, 2016Maybe your heater didn’t break, but your heart probably did when you received your heating bill after last winter. That’s the problem many people have – finding the balance between not freezing their tail off and not spending too much money on heating costs. But luckily, there are a few things you can do this winter to save money while remaining warm in the process. And no, they don’t involve lighting yourself on fire.
At Guaranteed Plumbing & Heating, Inc., we’re a fully licensed and full-service HVAC company, offering air conditioning repair in Montgomery County, PA, and other local areas, and we’re dedicated to the well-being of you and your home. We’re always available to help if you need your furnace or heater repaired, but what if you don’t need it and just want to save money? If that’s the case, here are a few tips to save money on your heating costs this winter:
- Use the sun for warmth – If you have windows at your house (which most people do), we recommend using the sun to heat up your home (for free!). Open your south-facing curtains during the day to let in the light and heat and close them at night to keep the heat inside.
- Dress warmly and bundle up with layers – We hate to break it to you, but you probably shouldn’t be hanging out in shorts when it’s only 30 degrees outside. In the winter, it’s a good idea to wear longer clothing, like pants, sweaters, hoodies and sweatshirts.
- Turn down the thermostat at night – It’s no secret that most people sleep better when it’s cool. In fact, it’s recommended to make your room like a cave when you sleep, or in other words – cold and dark. So, turning down your thermostat at night will not only save you money on heating costs but also help you sleep better.
There you have it. That’s how you can stay warm this winter without spending a ton of money on your heating bill. Of course, if your heater or furnace does break down or you think it’s not working as well as it should, you can always give us a call for Philly furnace repair at 215-240-8610.
