Keep Your House Warm This Winter. 10 Tips

November 20th, 2012

Keeping your house warm is always an issue around the winter season. Keeping a furnace repair in Philly out of the house can be easy.   Through some research I have found some ways to keep money in your pocket and warm air in your home.  Here are ten tips to a warm and money saving winter.

  1. Seal Leaks- caulk both the outside and inside of your windows.
  2. Put up the storm windows- if you have an older home with single pane windows then take off the screen and put up the storm windows. These storm windows offer another layer of protection on windows which are usually the most vulnerable spot for heat loss.
  3. Insulate-insulation gives home owners a huge return on their investment.  Keep in mind that it’s smart to have at least 12 inches of insulation in your attic.
  4. Replace Air Filters- a clean air filter will not only take some of the dust from the inside, but it will also reduce the amount of energy it takes for your heater to work and help it to last longer.
  5. Remember Duct work- duct work that is not well insulated, disconnected, or dirty gets in the way of air flow and makes the heating system work harder.
  6. Protect Pipes- pipes need to insulated if exposed to freezing temperatures. Pre molded foam is a great and easy way to insulate these pipes that may be in an attic, crawl space or basement.
  7. Get Fan Involved- reverse the direction of the fan; this will help push the warm air down. Make sure the blades are moving clockwise.
  8. Close off Unused Space- Close vents and doors to rooms and other space that isn’t frequently used.
  9. Smart Cooking Schedule- be efficient by turning down the heat while you cook and everyone is at home so they can enjoy the heat.
  10. Let The Sun In- Leave curtains and drapes open to let the sun in. the rooms will soak the heat up and release it at night.

When these steps are done you will keep Philly plumbers out of your life, and the kids and family nice and warm.  Also getting pipe repair in PA done can be costly, Make sure they don’t freeze!
