Water heater repair and installation in Philadelphia, PA

The water heater experts Philadelphia calls for high-quality service and parts

Choose Philadelphia, Bucks County, and Montgomery County’s favorite water heater specialists

Guaranteed Plumbing & Heating specializes in water heater services for homes across the Greater Philadelphia area. We handle the full range: gas tank, electric tank, tankless gas, tankless electric, and heat pump water heater installations and repairs. Per the U.S. Department of Energy, water heating accounts for nearly 20 percent of the average home’s energy use and is typically the second-largest energy expense after heating and cooling, so the system you choose and the way it is installed matters for what shows up on your gas or electric bill every month.

We provide our customers with constant support throughout the process. We answer the phone, we make follow-up calls to confirm the install or repair is performing the way it should, and our Master Plumbers diagnose before quoting so you are not paying for guesses.

Comprehensive water heater repair services

We diagnose and repair every common water heater problem in Philadelphia homes. Older tank heaters that have lost capacity, scaled-up burner assemblies, failed thermocouples and pilot assemblies, leaking T&P valves, corroded anode rods, expansion tank failures, and venting issues are all daily work for us. Our process starts with diagnosis, then a clear repair-or-replace recommendation with the numbers behind it.

Signs you need a water heater repair

  • No hot water
  • Inconsistent water temperature
  • Discolored water (rust or sediment)
  • Unusual noises (popping, rumbling, hissing)
  • Leaks at the tank, fittings, or T&P valve
  • Unpleasant odors (sulfur or metallic)
  • Water heater is over 10 years old and acting up

When the failure is on a unit that is over 10 to 12 years old, replacement usually makes more financial sense than repair. We tell you which scenario you are in, in writing, before the work starts.

Expert water heater replacement and installation

Whether you are interested in a tankless water heater or you need a new tank water heater, we cover the full range. Per the U.S. Department of Energy, tankless water heaters are 24 to 34 percent more energy efficient than conventional storage tank water heaters for homes that use 41 gallons or less of hot water per day, and 8 to 14 percent more efficient for higher-use homes (around 86 gallons per day). They typically last up to 20 years compared with 8 to 12 years for a tank unit.

That does not mean tankless is the right choice for every home. The conversion from tank to tankless can require gas line upsizing, electrical work, and venting changes, all of which add to install cost. In some Philadelphia row homes the basement layout, gas service capacity, or venting path makes a high-efficiency tank water heater the better practical choice. We walk through the trade-offs honestly with the actual numbers for your home before recommending a direction.

The water heater types we install:

  • Gas storage tank water heaters

Standard 40, 50, and 75-gallon units. The most common replacement in Philly homes that already have gas service.

  • Electric storage tank water heaters

For homes without natural gas service or where electric is more practical.

  • Tankless gas water heaters

On-demand hot water with significantly higher efficiency. Often the right call for homes with multiple bathrooms and consistent hot water needs.

  • Tankless electric water heaters

For homes without gas service or for point-of-use applications.

  • Heat pump water heaters

Higher upfront cost, significantly lower operating cost. Eligible for the federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit of up to 30 percent of the cost (capped at $2,000 per year per the U.S. Department of Energy).

Quick emergency water heater repair

A water heater that fails in winter is not a wait-until-tomorrow problem. Disaster can strike at any time, which is why we offer a 24/7 answering service. Our emergency plumber is dispatched on the same call. For active leaks on a tank water heater (especially upstairs or in a finished basement), the first instruction is to shut off the cold supply valve at the top of the unit, which we walk you through on the phone while the truck is on the way.

For total failures, we can often install a replacement same-day if the right unit is on the truck. If we need to source a specific model, we install a temporary backup when possible and return next-day for the permanent install.

What does a water heater cost in Philadelphia?

Water heater pricing depends on the type of unit, the size, the install conditions, and what the existing setup looks like. We do not publish flat prices because no two installs are the same. What you can expect:

  • Standard tank-to-tank replacement

The simplest case. Same fuel, same capacity, no rerouting of gas, water, or venting. The lowest-cost install scenario.

  • Tank-to-tankless conversion

More work. Often involves gas line upsizing (existing 1/2-inch gas line is rarely sufficient for tankless flow), new venting, condensate drain, and electrical for the unit. The conversion is worth it for many homes, but the install cost is materially higher than a tank-to-tank swap.

  • Heat pump water heater install

Comparable cost to tankless. Requires sufficient unconditioned space around the unit (heat pump water heaters draw heat from surrounding air), electrical capacity, and condensate drainage. Eligible for federal tax credits and may also qualify for PGW or PECO Gas rebate offsets.

  • Removal and disposal of the old unit

Included in our quote, not added on at the end.

We provide the firm estimate on-site after seeing the existing setup. The estimate becomes the price, confirmed in writing before any work starts, and we do not change it after the fact.
